Sociology Textbook
February 18th, 2008 Posted in BookSixty some posts so far. Sum them up as a sociology textbook reader, short essays, mostly on concepts and their associated methods. If they have any use beyond my pleasure in their composition it would be as didactic devices–starts for the other to learn for self. I hope they will eventually find a larger audience in formal classrooms, informal discussion groups, and among ordinary, everyday sociologists.
The textbook task is near done but I will offer additions as they occur to me. I will continue posting at this site though now in an even less disciplined mode–speculation, opinion, notes, commentary, critique, analysis and such. It will be more personal, egocentric and ideological. Perhaps I will come closer to the blog ideal.
Consider this the break-point. The textbook over and the new regime to begin with my next post.

All serious readers should award themselves a certificate. Remember that the real reward is in the craft.

Avi Courland is a pseudonym. I am long retired and though I have no formal place within professional sociology now I am not a stranger to the work. I majored in sociology at Columbia University and at the University of North Carolina and offered classes on the subject in colleges around New York City for many years.
