at
Retired journeyman sociologist
is using a non-commercial blog form to sum up his appreciation of the field. Written in short essays, notes, comments. New posts added every few days. Instructors and students in sociology are its natural audience. But the ordinary sociology is for everyone. Like prose it is something we use daily–aware or not.
(1) adventurous research projects,
(2) nagging questions of method,
(3) necessary critiques of concepts,
(4) analyzes of events and issues
(5) and wonder at the continuing mysteries of social life.
It is something like Rip Van Winkle’s return. Perhaps a little out of step: limited scholarship, misreading of established ideas, struggling with vanished shadows. Yet some reader, even in casual encounter, whether bemused or astonished or rejecting, may catch a spark and motor off in a new direction.
